Ken joined AVSP as Operations Manager in June 2007. During this time he excelled in leadership and management and became an obvious choice for the General Manager position when it became available.
Ken earned a BSBA at Clarion University and then went on to earn his MBA at Mercer College. He has been married for 21 years to his wife, Sue who is Director of Finance for CNN. They reside in Ashburn Village and have 2 children: Ryan, a high school senior who plays football and is a 2-time All-District baseball player and Kari, a high school sophomore and volleyball, lacrosse and basketball player.
In his spare time, Ken and cheers for his favorite teams, the Washington Redskins and the Atlanta Braves.

Marco Chavaz, Operations Manager (1)
Having lived in Ashburn Village since 1990, Marco Chavez joined the AVSP Staff in 2001 as a lifeguard and in July 2005 was promoted to Aquatics Director. As Aquatics Director, Marco was responsible for all aspects of Aquatics programming, including swim lessons, swim teams, lifeguards and the pool schedule. Along with these responsibilities, Marco was a natural when it came to the operational side of AVSP, making him the obvious choice when the Operations Manager position became available.
Marco graduated from Broad Run High School in 2003, and spent a year and a half at the College of William and Mary studying anthropology before accepting his current position. When not at the Pavilion, Marco enjoys spending his free time outside either camping or hiking and takes every opportunity to do so. -
Karen Parks, Program Manager (1)
Karen Parks joins AVSP after 5 years in the publishing industry with heavy concentration on marketing and advertising. She moved to the Northern Virginia area in 2002 after studying Journalism at West Virginia University.
Born and raised in Lansdale, PA, Karen has had a lifelong love of sports. She played competitive softball and soccer for over 12 years and has been an avid swimmer for as long as she can remember. While she no longer competes, Karen likes to stay active by swimming a few times a week, trying new fitness classes and water activities and making the occasional trip to the local batting cages.
In her time off, Karen can be found reading anything she can get her hands on, watching movies, beaching in the summer, skiing in the winter and cheering on all Philadelphia sports teams. Most of all she enjoys spending quality time with her husband Chris, a Loudoun County high school teacher and football and lacrosse coach, and their dog Samson, an American Staffordshire Terrier. -
Jackie O'Donnell, Member Services Manager (1)
Jackie, originally from Long Island, New York, moved down to Ashburn Village with her family in 2001. Jackie started out as a swim instructor during the summers and joined the AVSP management team as Front Desk Manager in the fall of 2005. She also serves as an AVSP private swim lesson instructor in her free time. Because Jackie has always worked to improve customer service for our members, she was promoted to Member Services Manager in January, 2008. In the role, she both oversees the Front Desk and the KidZone (nursery).
As an avid sports fan, Jackie enjoys tennis, swimming and cycling. She also enjoys attending sporting events for her favorite teams, the New York Yankees and New York Giants. -
Lisa Wojahn, Aquatice Director (0)

With her four children growing older and more independent, Lisa Wojahn has had the opportunity to go to work outside the home. She is excited to meet with the people in Ashburn and learn more about the diverse community. Lisa strives to facilitate positive programming in the swim program and to serve an expanding cliental.
Lisa has lived many places in the U.S. due to moving with her husband’s Coast Guard career. Her family has lived in Boston, MA; Eureka, CA; Monterey, CA; Ledyard, CT; Seattle, WA; and now in Ashburn, VA. They hope to continue to call Ashburn home as Lisa’s husband approaches retirement and they settle here while their children finish school.
Lisa has enjoyed teaching swim to adults and children for the past year at AVSP. Her swimming experience began as a child and continued through her college years. As a student attending the US Coast Guard Academy, Lisa had an entirely different experience in that they swam at times fully attired in flight suits, helmets and boots. Lisa attended Gettysburg College, USCGA, and Suffolk University where she graduated with a BS in Political Science.
Since then Lisa has worked with the Department of Treasury and then started her career as a full-time mom. She has volunteered in many organizations over the years and held leadership positions. Lisa is an active member of her church and has been involved in stewardship positions in both youth and women’s groups. Lisa’s other interests include ASL (sign language), creating jewelry, and quilting. Lisa looks forward to working with you and your children at Ashburn Village Sports Pavilion. -
Tom Schaeffer, Racquet Sports Director (1)
Tom is a USPTA certified professional with over 15 years teaching experience. Most recently, Tom helped coach our Mid-Atlantic 12 and under Zonal team to an East Coast Championship. Before becoming Director of Racquet Sports, Tom was Head Tennis Professional at Ashburn Village Ashburn Village Sports Pavilion, Head Tennis Professional at Fairland Athletic Complex in Maryland and Assistant Tennis Pro at International Country Club in Fairfax, VA.
Tom is a graduate of the University of Maryland, a ranked tournament player and has experience with players of all ages and skill levels. -

Beth has been a resident of Ashburn Village for over nine years. One of the main reasons for purchasing her home in Ashburn Village was the ability to play tennis all year long.
Beth was an All Catholic high school tennis player, played at the University of Scranton for four years and has been very active in the AVSP tennis program for eight years. She has captained USTA teams in the Shenandoah League as well as the NOVA Day League.
Beth has a true passion for tennis and quite frankly thinks all tennis players are addicted to the game. (in a good way!)
Beth brings a lot of enthusiasm to this position and welcomes your thoughts or ideas on ways to make the AVSP USTA’s tennis facility of the year. -
Lauren Shaver - Fitness Director (1)
Lauren is currently finishing her bachelors in Anthropology with a concentration in BioMedicine from the State University of New York at Albany. She has an Associates degree in Liberal Arts from Hudson Valley Community College.
Lauren is certified as a Personal Trainer through the American Council on Exercise (ACE) and has numerous group exercise certifications such as Kickboxing, Boxing and Spinning. Lauren also teaches Bootcamp, Body Sculpting and Pyramid Classes.
Lauren began her career as a personal trainer and group exercise instructor at The Stueben Athletic Club in Albany, New York. She has also worked for the YMCA where she continued to personal train, teach group exercise and helped in developing and overseeing Active Adult, Teen and Youth Fitness Programs. She was previously working in membership sales for the Women’s Club in Chantilly.
Lauren grew up in upstate New York and just moved to Virginia from the state of Maine. She has been involved in swimming, diving, ice hockey, tennis and track teams growing up. She was a collegiate swimmer and diver for the State college of New York at Oneonta. Lauren also played on the Men’s Hockey Team at Hudson Valley Community College. In her spare time you can find Lauren running outside, entering races, climbing mountains, mountain biking and kayaking.
Lauren has been personal training and teaching classes for about 9 years now. If you are looking for a new exciting and fun workout to help reach or maintain your fitness goals, Lauren and her team will help! -
Valerie Konur - Group Exercise Instructor (0)

Valerie first became interested in adult group exercise with the goal to improve physical well being (lose weight!!). Water aerobics, strength training, step aerobics, jazz dance, Pilates, and flexible core strength training (BOSU) made the difference. It has been an exciting and rewarding experience with results which have motivated Valerie to encourage, support, and motivate others that being active will make a difference; improving quality of life and health.
A nomad originally hailing from Michigan, Valerie became a Washington DC area resident in 1977 and has been living in Leesburg for 16 years. A graduate of Dorsey Business School, she has been married to Seref, a native of Istanbul, Turkey, for 22 years and they have six children.
In her spare time, Valerie loves to travel and enjoys the arts, especially classical ballet and contemporary dance, theater, singing, and music (in particular, jazz). She and her family stay actively involved with the Leesburg community through community based dance and theater projects. -
Cam Miller - Activities Director (1)
Originally from Roanoke, Virginia, Cam starting working for the AVSP in September 1990 as the front desk coordinator/nursery coordinator and has been working with the After School & RISE Camp Programs since 1992.
Cam is responsible for all the “fun stuff”. She plans the annual VillageFest, 4th of July celebration, Community Yard Sales, Halloween Party, Family Safety Day, Holiday Light Tour, Doggie Pool Party, After School Activities Program, and RISE Camp.
Cam attended Virginia Western Community College and was Visitor Services Coordinator/Volunteer Coordinator at the Science Museum of Western Virginia from 1981-1990. She has been married to Jan since New Year’s Day 1980. They have 2 grown sons, Ryan (previous RISE Camp counselor) & Cole (swim instructor and RISE Camp counselor).
